1. How did this get started?
Many years ago...
most stores were Owner operated That means Mr. Jones owned and
operated Jones Hardware Store's He did not need secret shoppers
because he was there everyday... making sure everything was
right. But now... 'Jones Hardware' has been replaced by Home
Depot. And... Home Depot is a HUGE big corporation. No longer is
there an 'Owner' there everyday. So, these big companies
developed a way to keep tabs on management. Secret Shoppers give
the company a report on what they want to know. They want to
know if the displays are right... if the employees are
helpful... if prices are right... if place is clean. And more.
2.
Why do companies need mystery shoppers?
They need a way to
make sure everyone is doing their job. It actually cost them
less to use secret shoppers to do research and it does to let
the business slide down hill. If the employees are not helpful
in the right way... they will lose money. Secret shoppers, or
mystery shoppers keep things rolling in the right way.
3.
What kind of businesses need secret shoppers... mystery
shoppers?
Grocery Stores.
Hospitals. Gas stations. Pharmacies. Home improvement stores.
Pet stores. Liquor stores. Hotels. Restaurants. Post Offices.
Financial Services. Insurance companies. Real estate companies.
Home builders. Car dealerships. Cosmetic Companies. Amusements
parks. Banks. Law firms. Market research companies. Airlines.
Airports. Car rental companies. Department stores. Photography
studies. And more.
Plus... it's not
just stores and businesses that hire secret shoppers... often
big name brands hire mystery shoppers. Like Nike shoes. Or
Calvin Kline. Etc. They need someone to go shop for a specific
product to make sure it's being displayed right and sold in the
right way.
4.
How do I get paid?
Once you accept a
shopping assignment, you do your shopping and then fill out some

know. For example, if the assignment is to find out if BRAND X
candy is displayed at eye-level, that's all you have to say is
YES or NO... it was or was not displayed at eye level. Once you
turn in your report, you get paid within 2 weeks. Or when ever
the pay cycle is for that job. Generally, it's quick and easy.
5.
Do I get to keep the items I purchase?
Yes! If you
assignment sends you out to buy cookware, you get reimbursed for

it. And you get paid to shop for it.

their job. If they know you're a mystery shopper, they will
likely go out of their way to give you extra special service. That's
why we need to know how they are treating normal, average,
customers.
15.
Do I have to shop if I don't want to?
No... if you don't want to do something you're under no
